Asiwaju of Owu Kingdom
Two chieftaincy roles within one of Yorubaland's historic royal institutions, centered in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Tony Ojeshina holds two chieftaincy titles within the Owu Kingdom's royal administrative structure, seated in Abeokuta under the Olowu of Owu: Asiwaju of Owu Kingdom, and Osi Balogun-Erunmu, Owu Kingdom. The Owu Kingdom traces its lineage through Yoruba history and counts former President Olusegun Obasanjo — who holds the title Balogun of Owu — among its own chiefs.
As Asiwaju, Ojeshina represents the palace at civic and community functions, and has used the platform to speak on issues of family cohesion and community welfare. In August 2025, he was a keynote speaker at the 4th Men-Only Town Hall in Abeokuta — organized by Women FM in collaboration with the Owu Palace — addressing men's role in safeguarding women and girls from gender-based violence.
At that event, Ojeshina argued that urbanisation and modern pressures have eroded family bonds, and called for a restoration of communal living even in a fast-modernizing Ogun State.
The strength of a nation is not only measured in its economy or its politics, but in the health of its families and the unity of its communities.
